I bought this book when I was in the process of locking my hair and luckily I did! because all the stories and all the information I received from others was so false!!! This book helped me to take better care of my locs and helped move the locking process along much easier. In fact, I had started locking my hair about 4 to 5 months before i bought this book and my hair just would not lock. After I read this book and incorporated some of the things in it...it finally started locking. very useful. I don't have my locs anymore but I still have this book for when I begin the process again.

While i sm still searching for the comprehensive authority on loc care and creation, this book is as close as it gets. The writer quicky and skillfully engages her audience and uses personal anecdotes to illustrate important hare care points. I love the fact that she gently tells all to cut the perm off. Too many of us as so hung up on length over health. I wish there had been more help for those of us readers with mature more wats to care for our hepar depend find on the coiliness of it's texture. and how tos on hair styling but to date this is THE BEST. loc case book out there. I bought as a gift for my sister who has natural hair but considering locs , but ended up keeping it for myself. I just read if for the third time!!!

This was the best book that I ever read on natural hiar. I've read alot of books of diversity, but this sister knows her work. I have made her my mentor, because I identified with h er. I'm a Black man who have done extensive studies on Black Customs and Culture. And, I have never ever been captivated by a book the way I was with this book. I cannot put into words what I felt, but I can say that this woman should be ordained as the QUEEN of natural hair. Her writing style and explanation is so exquisite until one cannot put the book away. I read the book within a period of three hours. And, I read the book about seven times. And, each time I read it; however, I learned something new. I took the book to Jamaica, and everybody that I showed it to LOVED IT. I feel that it should be distributed in the latin American countries as well as other parts of the world. Please tell the author that I've been her Public Relations persons recently(smile). She as well as her book is the best. She needs to write more as well as make public appearances. A Queen like her needs to be acknowledged and recognized for her great contribution to the education of Black Men and Women on the customs and culture of their own heritage.

I began locking my hair 3 years ago and I purchased this book because I was not pleased with the way my hair was looking during the first 6 months. This book helped me get through some of the "doubtful stages i went thru when I was wondering what I had gotten myself into. There were many helpful topics that helped me with the transition. Now 3 years later, it's the best decision I've made for my hair. If you're considering locking your hair, this would be a useful tool to have on hand before you bite the bullet.

Lonnice Brittenum Bonner writes useful books on natural hair care, and her style is informative and concise. The problem is that her books are too concise for me. Far from expecting a treatise on dreadlocks, I only wanted a comprehensive guide for care and styling of "nice dreads." I found her edicts wanting for elaboration, and her statements (i.e. "...coal tar is a suspected carcinogen) begging for attribution (which agency suspects the coal-tar threat?).Nitpicking aside, "Nice Dreads" delivers just what its subtitle promises: "Hair Care Basics and Inspiration...." If you are considering locks as part of your hair journey, then there is no other book as engaging, humorous, and full of useful tips as "Nice Dreads." Perhaps Ms. Brittenum Bonner has earned her right to be concise. She already has a loyal following of natural-hair divas and hopefuls. Count me as one.

I am contemplating dreads but knew nothing of the process. This book gives a start to finish description from how to start dreads, to how to care for them, some products to use on your hair, how to repair damage to your dreads, and hair coloring concerns. The book provides overall inspiration for those thinking about starting the process and gives good advice for those that already have dreads. (The book was highly recommended by someone who has had her dreads for 13 years). The book is small so it doesn't cover all the ways of starting dreads for instance, however, I found it complete, easy to follow, and a down-to-earth honest read about locking one's hair.

Worthless book, doesn't provide instruction to care for or start dreads... mostly a book on why black women should go natural and embrace their roots.... not what I was looking for at all for my son
